The Provision of Food Information to Consumers Regulation (No 1169/2011) will change the way foods are labelled and will create significant challenges for food businesses. From 13th December 2014 the provision of allergen information will become mandatory in respect of non-prepacked foods.
Article 44 (2) of Regulation 1169/2011 states that the manner in which this is done will be the subject of national rules. Today, 9th April 2013 sees the start of an eight-week consultation process in which the Food Safety Authority of Ireland seeks the views of stakeholders on how allergen information for non-prepacked foods should made available to consumers.
Responses to the consultation may be submitted on-line, by fax or by post but must be received by the FSAI by 5 pm on Tuesday, 4th June 2013. Further details about the consultation may be found at http://www.fsai.ie/legislation/consultations/consultations_2013.html
