Seven closure orders and one prohibition order were served on food businesses during the month of January 2013 for breaches of food safety legislation. The orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive.
The orders were served on food businesses throughout the Republic of Ireland including restaurants, take away premises and a wholesale meat products business.
Last year, 2012, 109 enforcement orders were issued by the food authorities. This was the highest number ever recorded and was a 30% increase on the number of orders issued in 2011.
