Food Standards Agency – Food Safety Week 2013

Food safety week takes place between Monday, 10th June and Sunday, 16th June 2013. One of the key themes for this year’s event is ‘Are you ready to cook safely?’ The FSA has created Kitchen Check, a simple tool that helps people find out if their kitchen habits are putting them, or their family and friends, at risk of food poisoning.

The Kitchen Check consists of seven questions that can be found at http://www.food.gov.uk/news-updates/campaigns/kitchen-check/kitchen-check1/tool.

The FSA has also created a children’s activity booklet entitled “Teaching children how to cook safely” to help parents provide help and guidance to promote food safety and hygiene among younger children. The booklet can be found at http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/kitchen-check-yppack.pdf.

With the expected, or at least hoped for, good weather leading to more barbeque cooking, highlighting the importance of basic procedures relating to proper cleanliness, food handling, storage and cooking is timely.
